Further improvements were made to the range in 1985, with the launch of the Ferrari 412 in April of that year. The engine was bored out by 1 mm, increasing capacity to 4.943 cc (4,9 L) — hence the name change to 412, denoting the displacement of a single cylinder in cubic centimetres. Both manual and automatic transmissions were retained, but the exterior badging no longer indicated the type of transmission fitted. Bosch ABS was available, a first for Ferrari. The bodywork was changed, with a raised rear deck providing more luggage space. Pininfarina made many subtle changes to modernise the exterior. The bumpers were body-coloured; at the front there was a deeper spoiler, while at the rear a black lambrequin was incorporated into the fog lamps and exhaust pipes. The side window trims were changed from chrome to black. The flat-rimmed wheels were new, and fitted with TRX tyres.

A total of 576 units were made. Production ended in 1989 without an immediate successor being launched; the mid-engined Mondial remained the only Ferrari with 2+2 seating. In 1992, after a three-year hiatus, the classic front-engined V12 2+2 grand tourer returned with the 456.

This 412 presented here is a car delivered by Franchorchamps, Belgium and finished in dark blue metallic. There are invoices from 0 - 85000 km. ! The engine was overhauled at 92.000 km. at Ferrari Antwerp. At 128.000 km the car was transported to France and re-imported to the Netherlands in 2015. The body is very straight and the seams are all parallel. The interior is finished in dark blue leather and the dashboard with all meters still looks like new. Under the hood you see a very dry engine. The manual transmission is a plus in this car, because of this it retains full power. The engine runs beautifully and that is how this Ferrari drives too. Furthermore there are the 5-spoke rims underneath with the Michelin TRX tires. There is a thick file with the maintenance and history. A serious Ferrari for the enthusiast.
