Chassis No. ZFF04TMB000291903 Ferrari’s open-top V12 grand tourers have traditionally been the privilege of limited production series—the 550 Barchetta, Superamerica, and SA Aperta—while the F12berlinetta lineage never spawned an open variant. That convention changed decisively with the 812 GTS in September 2019, a return of the series-production V12 Spider and long-awaited successor to the 365 GTS/4 “Daytona” Spider of 1969. Building on the 812 Superfast and GTS, Ferrari revealed the ultimate iterations—the 812 Competizione and the open Competizione A (Aperta)—two years later in 2021. Conceived as special-series summits of the front-engine V12 berlinetta, they received wholesale enhancements in powertrain, chassis, and aerodynamics. The 6.5-liter V12 was re-engineered with lighter internals to deliver 830 CV with an unprecedented 9,500-rpm redline, making it the most powerful and highest-revving naturally aspirated engine ever fitted in a Ferrari road car on debut. The result was power that surged cleanly and relentlessly to its peak, and an unmistakable exhaust note that Car and Driver magazine remarked sounded “right out of the combustion engine’s greatest-hits album.” Harnessing this power were the latest iterations of Ferrari’s Passo Corto Virtuale (Virtual Short Wheelbase) four-wheel independent steering and Slide Slip Control (SSC) traction control systems, versions 3.0 and 7.0 respectively. The aerodynamics were equally transformative. On the Competizione Aperta, the coupe’s solid aluminum rear panel and vortex generators were substituted for a carbon-fiber “bridge” spanning the flying buttresses. Acting like a wing, it deflected flow to the rear spoiler, effectively restoring rear downforce and limiting the targa’s inherent drag, while a flap integrated into the windscreen header rail extended the cockpit’s pressure “bubble” to reduce cabin pressure and improve efficiency. The carbon fiber targa panel could be stowed neatly in the rear luggage compartment, allowing for an immediate and unfiltered access to one of Maranello’s most intoxicating soundtracks. As the newest member of Ferrari’s exclusive Aperta canon, the 812 Competizione A was limited to just 599 examples. This particular left-hand drive, Swiss-delivery example is undoubtedly a highlight of this special-series production run, presented in exquisite four-layer Rosso Formula 1 2007 paintwork with airbrushed “Scuderia Ferrari” fender shields positioned above 20-inch Diamond Polished forged wheels. Yellow brake callipers lend a pop of color, while extensive carbon fiber—spanning the removable targa panel, rear diffuser, front air intakes, and under-door covers—sharpens the car’s already aggressive stance. Inside, the cockpit is trimmed in Nero Alcantara with Extra Range colored stitching and Cavallino Prancing Horses embroidered on the headrests in Rosso. Medium-size checked racing seats and a yellow tachometer are complemented by carbon-fiber accents including the instrument fascia, upper center console, and dashboard inserts, plus red air-vent grips. Desirable technical features include Adaptive Headlights with SBL function, a Suspension Lifter, Passenger Display, Integrated Audio System, and Front and Rear Parking Cameras. The car’s accompanying Ferrari Classiche “Yellow Book”—issued exclusively to special series Ferraris at birth—records that chassis 291903 was completed in May 2023 and delivered via B.I. Collection AG in Urdorf–Zurich, Switzerland. First registered on 11 August 2023, the car has travelled just 94 kilometers from new and presents in virtually as-delivered condition. For collectors tracking Ferrari’s most focused special series models, this rare Competizione A—long since sold out—offers a compelling opportunity to secure a well-specified example. Emerging from a rarified lineage of Aperta models, the Competizione A is poised to remain one of the most collectible and coveted Ferraris of its generation, and very likely among the final open, naturally aspirated V12s of its kind.
